Providing well ventilated hiding boxes for chinchillas adds an element of security to their caging, and reduces stress. Chinchillas like to sleep and rest in places where they can avoid overhead movement and shadows (caused by birds of prey in the wild). The white pine boxes are also made to be chewed on, which helps keep chinchilla's continually growing teeth properly worn down. Additionally, the boxes are made without floors. This prevents the bottom of the box from getting soiled. When the shavings in the cage are cleaned, so is the box bottom. The box is made with 2 openings so that if two chinchillas are in the box simultaneously, either animal can escape. The upside down "U" shape also gives chinchillas a ledge on which to rest its front feet while sleeping or relaxing. This chinchilla hiding box is made of untreated white pine.
