Because of the progress being made in the Chinchilla industry, the Ministry of Agriculture has appointed a specialist who will be a member of the Department of Research and Specialist Services and based in Salisbury.
After consultation with the Chinchilla Breeders' Association of Africa (Rhodesia), and the Rhodesian National Farmer's Union, the Minister has selected Mr. Frank Gillingham, a chinchilla expert of Salisbury, to fill the post.
The chinchilla industry is an extremely promising one and is already earning a considerable amount in foreign currency for Rhodesia. There are well over 100 chinchilla ranchers in the country at present and the number is increasing steadily.
